Three Lessons from the Wise Men for the New Year

Tomorrow, January 2, 2011, is the Feast of the Epiphany in the Catholic Liturgical calendar . It is during this Sunday that the story of the wise men or the magi is recounted for the assembly. The priest presider for the anticipated mass we attended tonight, Father Japs, gave a wonderful homily about the wise men. The story of the wise men have three lessons which can be used for the New Year. The wise men lost track of the star and instead of going to Bethlehem, where the baby Jesus was, they ended up in Jerusalem. Despite this, they did not give up or lose hope . Although they are known as wise men, they were humble enough to ask for help or assistance from King Herod when they required assistance in locating the star. After meeting the baby Jesus, they went back home through a different way . The qualities of the wise men are qualities that we should take into the New Year. Despite problems and trials, we should learn to  never give up or lose hope . Giving up does not a
