Three Lessons from the Wise Men for the New Year

The Magi / Wise Men



Tomorrow, January 2, 2011, is the Feast of the Epiphany in the Catholic Liturgical calendar. It is during this Sunday that the story of the wise men or the magi is recounted for the assembly. The priest presider for the anticipated mass we attended tonight, Father Japs, gave a wonderful homily about the wise men.

The story of the wise men have three lessons which can be used for the New Year.
  1. The wise men lost track of the star and instead of going to Bethlehem, where the baby Jesus was, they ended up in Jerusalem. Despite this, they did not give up or lose hope.
  2. Although they are known as wise men, they were humble enough to ask for help or assistance from King Herod when they required assistance in locating the star.
  3. After meeting the baby Jesus, they went back home through a different way.
The qualities of the wise men are qualities that we should take into the New Year.
  1. Despite problems and trials, we should learn to never give up or lose hope. Giving up does not accomplish anything. We allow ourselves to lose.
  2. We should humble ourselves and ask for help when we need it. Throw away pride. It will just hinder us from easily achieving our goals.
  3. As we put down the Christmas decorations and keep them in the boxes for use again the next Christmas, let us remember thatwe should not go back to who we were before the Christmas season. We should change what needs to be changed not because Christmas is the time for giving, for loving, for forgiving, but because we have met Jesus.
I hope that I'll be able to apply all these in the New Year.

fun fun fun at the fair!

i had so much fun at the fair at my old high school, st. paul college pasig, last night. it was so so so so so so so so so so so (i think you get my point ^^) much FUN last night at the variety show. ^^ not only because the show kicked ass, but also because it's the first time in a looooooooong time that i spent time with the pop peeps and i sooooooooo miss them! anyways, the variety show started with a performance by the preschoolers after the singing of the pambansang awit by MAC. after that, the grade school faculty gave their performance. then there was a fashion show called couture 2004 and i went on commenting on the models and their clothes (i couldn't help it! i'm sorry!). i mean, it is a fashion show and fashion shows are supposed to help you appreciate a certain style of clothes or wearing clothes or mixing up clothes. if the models can't project the clothes well, then they wouldn't make good models. i expect models to be able to bring the clothes he/s
